Back in July last year, I wrote a post rounding up the best of the gadgets for iGoogle, Google’s customisable homepage. That blog post is still the most popular post on the blog.
Since then, I’ve discovered several more gadgets to enhance my iGoogle page, which has led to a brand new list for 2011. So here it is!
Ten of the best iGoogle gadgets for 2011
- Clicky – I’ve yet to find a decent Google Analytics gadget for iGoogle, but Clicky is an excellent alternative for a quick snapshot of how your blog traffic is doing. It’s all in plain English too, so you know exactly what people are doing when they reach your site.
- Google Maps – A simple little gadget that allows you to quickly pull up directions using Google Maps. Type in your current location and your destination, and it’ll give you your route map in seconds.
- Google Mini Search – Want to search without leaving your iGoogle page? The Google Mini Search does just that. A warning though – the results are probably not as trusted as normal Google search, but it’s handy if you want to quickly find a company or reference.
- Tube Services Update – Live in or near London? Then this gadget is fairly essential. Offers information on line status today and over the weekend.
- Tube Map – While you’re checking the status of the tubes, why not check out how to get there? The Tube Map is another gadget from Transport For London, so should be updated regularly.
- Freshbooks Time Tracking Gadget – If you use Freshbooks for your invoicing (and really, you should. It’s excellent. Sign up here if you want really, really easy invoicing), then this gadget may come in useful for tracking your time.
- Urban Dictionary – Are you ‘down with da kidz’? No? Add Urban Dictionary to your iGoogle and you’ll learn exactly what your teenagers are talking about. Which could be fairly disturbing…
- Colour Chooser – A gadget for the web developers and anyone that occasionally tinkers with HTML. Find your perfect colour and it’ll offer up the HTML code. Hurrah!
- BBC Weather – Want to know whether to pack sun cream or an umbrella for your day? Check the BBC Weather gadget on your iGoogle and you’re sorted for the day.
- TVGuide.com – Finished work for the day? Excellent. Kick back, check out the TVGuide.com iGoogle gadget, then enjoy an evening of your favourite TV.
